Fire Horse Lunar New Year Celebration

Potluck breakfast begins at 9:00–9:30 AM.
At 9:30 AM, our online discussion room will open so everyone can join, chat, and connect. Come make flower and fire offering of candles around Dolpopa’s stupa.

At 10:00 AM, we will gather at Tashi Gadu and online to celebrate the Lunar New Year in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Traditionally, this is a powerful day to make offerings and prayers to the local deities, including torma offerings and a sang (smoke) offering to purify karmic debts, clear obstacles, and set strong auspicious conditions for the year ahead.

We will be doing these traditional practices together, as well as raising prayer flags to increase our lungta (windhorse energy)—inviting fresh vitality, good fortune, and a clear path forward. We will also fill the space with fresh flowers everywhere as a symbol of renewal and a fresh start.

This Year of the Fire Horse is a perfect time to strengthen our courage, momentum, and inner power—not just for our own lives, but to truly fulfill Rinpoche’s aspirations for the Golden Age. In the spirit of his vision, we will raise strong lungta and dedicate our prayers so that we become the kind of tireless, awakened support the world needs—steadfast, compassionate, and unstoppable in benefiting others.

This year we will also recite prayers for magnetizing auspicious conditions, including:

-Riwo Sang Chö in Tibetan

As it is a celebratory time to spend with the community, we invite you to enjoy breakfast with us at the Rime Institute. In Tibet, Losar is often celebrated for days—sharing food and warmth with neighbors and loved ones—so we will celebrate in that same spirit.

If you would like to participate from home, you can also do a simple form of the smoke offering by offering incense.
