Sacred Transition: What to Do at the Time of Death
Dying is an essential part of life; something that we all will experience. Whether you or a loved one are facing death today or decades from now, it’s important to understand what it means to live and die well.
In this online weekend teaching, Khentrul Rinpoche will take us on a journey through what is known as the ‘bardos’, or transitionary periods, between one life and the next, and the tremendous opportunity they can offer if we view them as an opportunity for spiritual transformation.
Khentrul Rinpoche will help us understand the profound steps we can take in our life now to prepare for death and what we can do at the time of death. In this practical teaching, Khentrul Rinpoche will discuss the step by step instructions for what to do for our loved ones at the time of death, through their dying process and the subsequent prayers and practice we can do once our loved one has passed away. We do not have to be an incredible yogi to benefit from these teachings. Everyone can create conditions in this life, for their loved ones to have a peaceful death and a beneficial future rebirth.
Practical Teaching Includes:
- How to prepare for death while living
- What to do when you or a loved one is dying
- What to do as someone dies
- What to do immediately and in the year following their death
- Receive a Death Blanket to put over someone’s dead body
- How to spot opportunities for liberation in the Bardo
- Kalachakra Phowa Teaching and Transmission
There will be plenty of opportunity for questions, discussions, and sharing throughout the day.

How does the Online Retreat Work?
After you register prior to the online retreat, you will be sent an email containing all of the information to log in and follow along. The course will be held through “Zoom“. In order to access the sessions, you need to download the Zoom App onto the device through which you want to join.
We will provide you with the Zoom link (as well as Zoom Meeting-ID and Password) created by Dzokden. You will need this link (or alternatively Zoom Meeting-ID and Password) to access the online sessions. The Zoom link (as well as Zoom Meeting-ID and Password) will be provided at the latest two days before the online event in your email as well as in the Dzokden learning center.
Access to Video Materials Afterwards
The retreat access and all the prayers will be provided for you in Dzokden’s new online learning center (Khentrul Rinpoche’s International Organization). We encourage everyone to connect to the live-streamed retreat in real time but if that is not possible, you can still log in to the learning center after the retreat and access all of the retreat content. This retreat material will not be accessible online to people outside of the learning center except for Friday nights teaching which will be live-streamed.

Khentrul RinpocheNon-Sectarian Master of Kalachakra
Khentrul Rinpoché Jamphel Lodrö is the founder and spiritual director of Dzokden. Rinpoche is the author of Unveiling Your Sacred Truth, The Great Middle Way: Clarifying the Jonang View of Other-Emptiness, A Happier Life, and The Hidden Treasure of the Profound Path.
Rinpoche spent the first 20 years of his life herding yak and chanting mantras on the plateaus of Tibet. Inspired by the bodhisattvas, he left his family to study in a variety of monasteries under the guidance of over twenty-five masters in all the Tibetan Buddhist traditions. Due to his non-sectarian approach, he earned himself the title of Rimé (unbiased) Master and was identified as the reincarnation of the famous Kalachakra Master Ngawang Chözin Gyatso. While at the core of his teachings is the recognition that there is great value in the diversity of all spiritual traditions found in this world; he focuses on the Jonang-Shambhala tradition. Kalachakra (wheel of time) teachings contain profound methods to harmonize our external environment with the inner world of body and mind, ultimately bringing about the golden age of peace and harmony (dzokden).
