Interior Decorator – Dzokden Kalapa

Description
Dzokden Kalapa is seeking a dedicated, creative volunteer with a passion for interior decorating to help create a vision for the interior spaces of Dzokden Kalapa that aligns with Rinpoché’s vision. The design concepts will be used to create plans for future interior renovation projects.
Responsibilities
- Concept Development. Develop multiple design concepts that help create a vision for the interior spaces of Dzokden Kalapa that aligns with Rinpoche’s vision. Meet with Rinpoche, Yeshe Wangmo, and Dzokden staff and volunteers to understand the vision and practical aspects of the interior spaces. Create mood boards and sketches to visually communicate design ideas. Consider the flow and functionality of each space, ensuring optimal use of available areas.
- Space Planning. Design layouts for furniture and fixtures, considering factors such as traffic flow, accessibility, and storage needs. Propose creative solutions for maximizing space utilization and creating a sense of openness and airiness.
- Material Selection. Source and specify appropriate materials for walls, floors, and ceilings, considering factors such as cost, durability, aesthetics, and sustainability. Choose furniture and furnishings that are comfortable, functional, and in keeping with Rinpoche’s vision.
- Color Palette and Lighting. Develop a color palette that promotes a sense of calm and serenity, using colors associated with Tibetan Buddhist traditions. Design lighting schemes that create a warm and inviting atmosphere, using natural light and strategically placed fixtures.
Skills & Qualifications
Artist
- Proven experience in interior decorating and design, with a strong portfolio demonstrating a range of styles and approaches.
- Excellent written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with all stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to creating high-quality, functional spaces. A passion for creating spaces that promote well-being and spiritual growth.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with other staff members and volunteers to fully support the project.
- Good organizational and time management skills; diligence.
- Flexibility and patience to adapt to changing requirements.
- Ability to use Dzokden productivity tools (e.g., Google Workspace, Drive, Docs (text editing/formatting functions) and Slack.
