We are seeking a dedicated volunteer to serve as the Main Cook to support the 2026 Vajra Family Day at Dzokden Kalapa taking place from August 24-25, 2026.
Timing: ~2 days – Friday, August 21 (arrival until 12:00) through Wednesday, August 26 – (departure in the morning)
Hours: 8 hours a day for 4,5 days, total 36 hours onsite + 14 hours preparation beforehand (personal preparation, meetings, etc.) = total 50 hours
*Note: This role also counts for EAP
Responsibilities
- Preparing breakfast, a varied, nourishing lunch, and a light dinner for a group of Vajra Sisters & Brothers at the size of around 15-25 (number will vary along the week!).
- The food is vegetarian and must include a vegan and a gluten-free alternative.
- Responsible for setting up the daily menu and preparing a shopping list (including calculating the quantities of each item) beforehand.
- This event will follow a large retreat. You are highly encouraged to prepare a menu using as much as possible the leftover food supplies. After arriving, you will check the food stock and prepare a shopping list (including calculating quantities of each item) for any missing items needed for your menu.
- Note: If the group is larger than 15 retreatants, you will have a part-time cooking helper.
- Manage the cooking volunteers, if available.
- Final deep cleaning of kitchen, washroom & dining hall in the afternoon of August 25.
- Depending on the daily visitor number onsite, beyond cooking activities, participation in various event preparation activities (e.g. cleaning, laundry, event set up, etc.) is expected

- The most important qualification is your willingness to help the success of the Event in this role.
- Previous cooking experience for medium to large-size groups is not mandatory, but helpful.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with other staff members and volunteers to fully support the retreat; ability to work in a team is essential.
- Good communication and organizational skills, diligence and flexibility.
