History of Kalachakra and Shambhala in Mongolia

History of Kalachakra and Shambhala in Mongolia

Description

The Mongolian interest in Shambhala is closely connected to the spread and rise in popularity of the Kalachakra teachings throughout history in the region. The Divine Kingdom of Shambhala as described in the Kalachakra tantra has significant links to the Gobi desert of Mongolia, where you will find Dvanaraja’s Shambhala land. Mongolians consider Shambhala Land to be an energy portal symbolically linked to the sublime realm of Shambhala. In this talk, Vesna will bring to life the rich history of Kalachakra and Shambhala in Mongolia and its unique features. This was an enriching talk and Q&A session with Vesna.

where the reincarnation of the Jonang master Jetsun Taranatha and the first Jetsun Dhampa where.

: 3: 4.2 2, : 3: 8. 6
So now I will introduce Vesna Wallace.

: 3: 8. 6 , : 3:26.22

Vesnar has authored and translated four books related to Indian Buddhism,

: 3:4 .445, : 3:45.326
three of which pertain to the
Kalachakra tantric tradition in India.

: 3:45.326, : 3:52. 85

And her forthcoming co-authored book

: 4: 2.6 3, : 4: 7.7 6
is “The Text image and Imagination in Mongolian Buddhist Rituals”,

: 4: 7.7 6, : 4:2 .596
which will be published by Columbia
University Press.

: 4:22.3 6, : 4:33.36
I’d now like to introduce Vesna. So welcome Vesna with us today. We’re so happy to have you here.

: 4:33.87 , : 4:34.92
Thank you.

: 4:35.52 , : 4:38.
So Vesna, you will start with

: 4:39.2 , : 4:45.36
a lecture on the history of Kalachakra
in Mongolia. Its connections to Shambhala

: 4:45.36 , : 4:48.748
and how Mongolians understand Shambhala

: 4:49. 68, : 4:5 .74
So we welcome you and please, please begin.

: 4:52. 8 , : 4:59.84
Thank you for organizing this event, and also I know how much work it takes to organize the

: 5: .36 , : 5: 7.52
retreat and travel. Many people are
involved so I’m grateful to everyone.

: 5: 8. 6 , : 5: 4.545
Here and in Mongolia in the UK who have been working on this.

: 5: 4.545, : 5:2 .269
So today, actually this book that you mentioned that’s currently in press,

: 5:2 .529, : 5:27.4
my section of the book is almost exclusively actually on Karachakra and Shambhala.

: 5:27.4 , : 5:28. 3
Okay.

: 5:28.49 , : 5:3 . 99
That pertains to Mongolia

: 5:3 .759, : 5:38.272
and a friend of mine who is publishing second part of a book, also, in many ways makes references

: 5:38.272, : 5:43.435
to Kalachakra and Shambhala in Mongolia from a historical perspective.

: 5:43.735, : 5:48.7
So maybe later when it’s out, some of you may be interested.

: 5:5 .8 , : 5:52.2 9
Can you hear me well?

: 5:52.749, : 5:54.552
Yes, yes thank you.

: 5:54.552, : 6: .376
So I will speak not long about history because also we don’t know yet

: 6: .376, : 6: 6. 47
a full history, because this is something that still has to be researched.

: 6: 6.5 7, : 6: 4.9 8
But I will give some snippets of it. And then I will focus on some

: 6: 4.9 8, : 6:23.263
perspective that Mongolian authors and Buddhists have had of particularly Shambhala.

: 6:23.263, : 6:27.52
Because Rinpoche asked me to talk about that and

: 6:27.52 , : 6:33.238
also in relation to how he teaches
what Shambhala is.

: 6:34.6 8, : 6:37.86
So in briefly just to

: 6:38.56 , : 6:45. 2
mention that it is already since the time
of Yuan empire, which Mongolian empire

: 6:46. , : 6:53.36
you know the 3th century, that Mongols already showed interest in the Kalachakra tradition.

: 6:54. , : 7: .84
And that interest since then, has been closely related to the concerns for rebirth Shambhala.

: 7: 3. 2 , : 7: 9.84
During the Yuan period Mongol courts saw the legend of Shambhala as a (?) for their political

: 7: 9.84 , : 7: 4.854
legitimation among the Mongols and their Tibetan allies.

: 7: 4.854, : 7:2 .566
And since then Mongolian nobles and Lamas sought to break their provinces and monasteries

: 7:2 .566, : 7:24.2 7
into the Shambhala lineage.

: 7:24.577, : 7:3 .26
So historically, Kalachakra initiation in Mongolia itself were very rare

: 7:3 .26 , : 7:34. 85
and the reason for that is because they were expensive.

: 7:36. 64, : 7:4 .535
So then during the Qing period, a few selected Mongolian Lamas,

: 7:4 .535, : 7:5 .523
who were selected by governors of their provinces, often it was a two of them within a single province

: 7:5 .523, : 7:57.88
who was sent to India, sorry to Tibet, to receive Kalachakra initiations there.

: 7:57.88 , : 8: 3. 95
And upon their return they were giving a vajra ring to wear,

: 8: 3. 95, : 8: 8.2 5
it was a symbol of somebody who has received the Kalachakra initiation

: 8: 8.2 5, : 8: 4.234
and they were also considered as
bearers of Kalachakra blessings, so

: 8: 5. , : 8: 9.496
in the Mongolian view, whoever has received Kalachakra initiation

: 8: 9.496, : 8:26. 42
wherever that person go, in what environment is, is kind of sharing,

: 8:26. 42, : 8:3 .66
emanating the blessing, Kalachakra blessings in their environment.

: 8:32. 2 , : 8:4 .38
Therefore, those Lamas who were sent for initiations were not allowed to travel to other provinces.

: 8:4 .74 , : 8:47.76
Because the governor spent money and now want to keep these blessings within one’s own province.

: 8:48.48 , : 8:59.2
But also, those Lamas who received this initiation in Tibet, they were excused from paying taxes

: 9: . 4 , : 9: 8.24
to the (?). So also for this reason they
had to stay within their provinces.

: 9: . 8 , : 9: 5.388
After the Qing period, which lasted for 2 years,

: 9: 5.388, : 9:2 .685
with the formation then of the autonomous Mongolian national state in 2 7,

: 9:2 .685, : 9:3 .46
which, at which the first, not the first sorry, the seventh Jetsun Dhampa became

: 9:32.24 , : 9:39.7 9
the eighth. What am I talking?! Sorry. The eighth Jetsun Dhampa was the holder of state and religion.

: 9:39.7 9, : 9:43.76
But also at the wake of communist revolution

: 9:43.76 , : 9:5 .56
a strong interest in the Kalachakra traditionally re-emerged among Mongolians

: 9:5 .56 , : 9:58. 44
and the Kalachakra initiations then became more available

: 9:58. 44, : : 5.465
with the first large initiation and probably the last in 93 .

: : 5.465, : : . 36
Also Panchen Lama traveled to Mongolia especially to inner Mongolia

: : . 36, : : 6.8
and this is where also Lamas
from outer Mongolia would receive initiations

: : 7. 2 , : :2 .28
and there were times when they were called there during revolution and couldn’t come.

: :2 .52 , : :22.844
Come back.

: :23.2 4, : :3 . 25
But it was really Panchen Lama, 7th Panchen Lama who was disseminating also Kalachakra among Mongols.

: :32.585, : :36.983
From the 8th, then through the
early 2 th centuries

: :37.343, : :42.425
renowned Mongolian scholastics composed aspirational prayers,

: :42.425, : :47.6
sadhanas, manuals and transference of consciousness practices

: :47.6 , : :54.56
and various other ritual texts and manuals intended for securing the rebirth in Shambhala.

: :55.52 , : : .25
Mongolian monastic scholastics, tulkus

: : .25 , : : 7. 6
and yogis who sought to establish their own connection with the Shambhala lineage were many.

: : 7. 6 , : : 3.2 6
And among the various oral accounts of Mongolia Lamas who endeavored

: : 3.2 6, : :2 . 27
to establish such connection with
Shambhala is 5th Noyen Khutugtu Danzanravjaa,

: :2 . 27, : :27.377
whose place was monastery and who Shambhala
portal we are going to visit.

: :27.377, : :3 .6 5
May I for briefly just show you photos of it?

: :3 .6 5, : :34. 4
Of course please, yes.

: :34. 4, : :38. 8
And then I will come back to my lecture, if I can

: :4 .36 , : :42.772
…be able to share the screen.

: :43. , : :46.388
Thank you. Let me just find the…

: :5 .32 , : :55.84
So this is like a modern portrait of Danzanravjaa. We don’t know exactly how he looked.

: :56.48 , : 2: 3.86
But here is this portrait. I’ll give you more
historical and contextualize of this.

: 2: 5. 8 , : 2: 7.849
Can you see it, or do I need to make it…

: 2: 7.849, : 2: 2.39
Yes. If you can make it a little bit bigger that would be great, but if you can’t if you can’t we can see it

: 2: 2.39 , : 2: 6. 8
…full screen. Let’s see how to do this.

: 2: 8. , : 2:2 .68
Usually it says, oh maybe it’s down here.

: 2:22.64 , : 2:29. 2
Just looking where. Where should I
find where it says it’s full screen?

: 2:3 .2 , : 2:33. 49
It’s probably in your document.

: 2:33.989, : 2:4 .2
Yeah it just says zoom in. Oh I see on the bottom.

: 2:4 .44 , : 2:46.394
So this is from an aerial site where Danzanravjaa built the portal to Shambhala

: 2:46.394, : 2:5 .883
and I’ll tell you everything more, but I just wanted you to see first impressions,

: 2:5 .883, : 3: .263
first photos. This is in the region of Dundgovi, several Gobi principalities

: 3: .263, : 3: 2.96
or you could say provinces,

: 3: 4. 8 , : 3: .52
which is this one. And as you can see, it is in a very arid area and you will see later why.

: 3: .76 , : 3: 8.24
So this is 8 stupas, mark this portal to Shambhala.

: 3: 9.2 , : 3:24.8
This is one of the the
main gates, main gate to Shambhala.

: 3:28.72 , : 3:34.5
I will describe the ritual of pilgrimage
here

: 3:34.5 , : 3:42.246
actually to those who come because I will send you guidance, so you can read what we are going to do

: 3:42.246, : 3:45. 85
when we arrive there.

: 3:46. 65, : 3:53.537
This is called (?) which feels all symbolic which I will explain

: 3:53.537, : 4: 3. 39
where people come and they sing the (?) song to emptiness and make prayers for rebirth in Shambhala.

: 4: 3.28 , : 4: . 8
This is where you enter the
portal. This is the road to Shambhala.

: 4: .28 , : 4: 2.428
Beautiful.

: 4: 2.788, : 4:2 . 23
Okay I can just exit now, But
now you will… okay, I’ll stop there.

: 4:2 .383, : 4:22.248
Perfect thank you.

: 4:23.268, : 4:28. 98
And I think there are many stories to
be told about this, and I’ll save it

: 4:28. 98, : 4:33.499
when, because one hour is not enough to cover everything,

: 4:33.499, : 4:37.62
But you will be hearing when you come to Mongolia

: 4:4 .24 , : 4:49.28
So where was I…so Danzanravjaa’s connection with the Kalachakra tantra began in his years

: 4:49.28 , : 4:53. 88
when he received the Kalachakra teachings and initiation

: 4:53. 88, : 4:57.2 3
from the Mongolian Kalachakra master in inner Mongolia.

: 4:57.2 3, : 5: 4.84
D….? is a Mongolian pronunciation of Kalachakra who took to (?).

: 5: 6.88 , : 5: 4.8
Later, from the also very famous Ch..?… Khutukhtu, who Rinpoche knows about him.

: 5: 4.8 , : 5: 9.557
In 827 also, in inner Mongolia so that

: 5: 9.557, : 5:27.937
so it’s interesting that nothing was at that time, was happening in terms of initiation in outer Mongolia itself.

: 5:28.4 7, : 5:34.947
So it is in the later years that he developed a special interest in the Kalachakra teachings in Shambhala

: 5:34.947, : 5:39.487
and according to his autobiography and oral histories

: 5:39.487, : 5:47.9 8
Danzanravjaa was often troubled by disturbing visions and dreams about times of social perils

: 5:47.9 8, : 5:54.29
and the great battle between the inimical barbarian forces and the army of Shambhala.

: 5:54.29 , : 6: .
So 827 after he received the second Kalachakra initiation

: 6: .84 , : 6: 7.48
Danzanravjaa recorded in his biography prophecy that he received in his vision

: 6: 7.48 , : 6: 6.32
and the prophecy said that the great Tibetan siddha, Lhomdon(?) Rinpoche will sit in the royal throne of Shambhala and

: 6: 6.32 , : 6:24.52
at the time he done Danzanravjaa will establish the Kalachakra monastic college in Mongolia.

: 6:25.9 , : 6:33.48
So in the 83 Danzanravjaa wrote again about another prophetic vision he received.

: 6:34. 2 , : 6:37.562
In that vision he was told that in the future time

: 6:37.562, : 6:4 .46
when Panchen Lama becomes the king of Shambhala and when

: 6:4 .76 , : 6:48.86
many enlightened beings, military commanders and officers will wage war against

: 6:48.86 , : 6:56. 58
these enemies of the Dharma. He, Danzanravjaa will be reborn there as a commander

: 6:56. 58, : 7: 3.284
in the military of Raudra Chakrin, leading the army consisting of the holy ones

: 7: 3.284, : 7: 9.6
ministers of (?), accompanied by the armies.

: 7: . , : 7: 7.4 7
And in another text called “Teachings
of the Precious (?)”

: 7: 7.4 7, : 7:25.52
That was his popular name, Danzanravjaa wrote yet again about the prophetic dream he had on the 5 days

: 7:25.52 , : 7:34.
of the first months of 854, in which he had visited the six destinations of cyclic existence.

: 7:34.24 , : 7:4 .44
And so Shambhala is a sacred place where the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas stage Dharma

: 7:4 .44 , : 7:49.92
In the dream he also received another prediction, or prophecy which said that when the Panchen Lama

: 7:49.92 , : 7:59.84
becomes the Chakravarti called the Raudra Chakrin of this prophesized King of Shambhala. Then

: 8: . 4 , : 8: 8.24
..?..panita will become a king named Suchandra who lead the mongols

: 8: 8.24 , : 8: 3.84
and the (?) will arrive in the form
of Vajrapani and at that time when

: 8: 4.4 , : 8: 7.789
Raudra Kulki will teach in the Northern Shambhala.

: 8: 7.789, : 8:24.768
Then the Tsongkhapa will arrive in in this realm and disseminate the Buddha’s teachings

: 8:24.768, : 8:27.84
like the sun in the 2 sections of Jambudvipa.

: 8:29. 2 , : 8:34.24
And this matter was clearly, he said, prophesied by Buddha Shakyamuni.

: 8:34.96 , : 8:38.49
Danzanravjaa had close relations to Panchen Lama

: 8:38.49 , : 8:44.32
who visited and consecrated the site that you just saw.

: 8:45.36 , : 8:52.4
The (?) building is this portal to Shambhala and this is one comes to pray,

: 8:54. 8 , : 9: .295
to meditate on Kalachakra’s aspirational prayers and to purify oneself

: 9: .295, : 9: 7.682
in order to prepare oneself for the times of crisis that I would have to solve,

: 9: 7.682, : 9: 5.352
considering there will be time of social political crisis, and then those who come there

: 9: 5.352, : 9:2 . 6
they will be somehow protected and saved.

: 9:2 .6 , : 9:28.96
One of the reasons Danzanravjaa particularly selected this site was because he had a vision

: 9:28.96 , : 9:36.8
of celestial Shambhala of Sukhavati. There are many Sukhavatis of Amitabha,

: 9:36.8 , : 9:43. 2
of Omoghasiddhi, Akshobya sorry.

: 9:43. 2 , : 9:5 .64
Medicine Buddha. But there is also Sukhavati as Shambhala. That’s how he saw this vision

: 9:5 .64 , : 9:58.56
and he painted it, then made this consecrated site and build.

:2 : .2 , :2 : 9.6
So according to oral accounts, when Danzanravjaa visited Shambhala in his deep meditative state

:2 : 9.6 , :2 : 5.6 9
he requested the King of Shambhala to grant him a connection with the Shambhala lineage.

:2 : 5.6 9, :2 :22.494
And after that he dedicated the remaining 2 years of his life to maintaining that connections.

:2 :22.494, :2 :3 .84
And then since then, every year on September 8, and , his monastery, which is nearby there and we will visit,

:2 :33.36 , :2 :4 .9 6
has been holding prayers for Shambhala with the conviction that aspiration prayers for Shambhala

:2 :4 .9 6, :2 :47.3 3
that are made there, on those particular days are being recorded in Shambhala

:2 :47.3 3, :2 :52.4
due to the power of Danzanravjaas previous prayers.

:2 :54.32 , :2 : 4.32
So for this reason then from 885 until the
suppression of religious freedom in the mid- 93 ‘s

:2 : 4.32 , :2 : 9.645
aspirational prayers for Shambhala were regularly performed

:2 : 9.645, :2 : 4.3 3
at this monastery called Khamriin khiid (?) on those particular days

:2 : 4.3 3, :2 :23.2 5
and after the reconstruction of the monastery and this Shambhala portal, then again

:2 :23.958, :2 :3 .7 3
the same renewed practice continues
to be performed every year in this monastery.

:2 :32.64 , :2 :4 .6
In 854 two years before his death he
again had some disturbing prophetic vision

:2 :4 .88 , :2 :48.
including the premonition of his impending
death. And on account of the dream, he believed

:2 :48. , :2 :55. 35
it was necessary to quickly construct the temple surrounded by a complex of 8 stupas

:2 :55. 35, :22: .795
in that sacred site, which was consecrated previously by Panchen Lama.

:22: .432, :22: 7. 8
And it was there right, that he saw that vision of Shambhala is a Sukhavati

:22: 8.354, :22: 9.44
And so the portal was also envisioned as a pilgrimage site and so the entire pilgrimage in a way is recall

:22:2 .32 , :22:26.96
you could say like a reconstruction of rebirth in Shambhala. Of the journey in Shambhala.

:22:27.92 , :22:3 .84
everything one does there,
becomes symbolic of that.

:22:33. 4 , :22:39.424
Then shortly after his death in 24 days the
construction of the temple

:22:39.424, :22:47.84
which housed the three dimensional Kalachakra mandala which was destroyed in that site during cultural revolution

:22:47.84 , :22:54.63
and has not yet been rebuilt and that wall
of 8 white stupas

:22:54.63 , :23: .9 9
symbolizing the ring of snow-capped mountains surrounding the land of Shambhala.

:23: .266, :23: .867
The gates of the three sides of the stupa wall that you saw in this large (kora?), and this is where prayers are to be made.

:23: 2.72 , :23:22. 39
In the early 2 th century, now 7 years right, after all the structures at the site were demolished

:23:22. 39, :23:29. 99
then all these gates were built again and this
became very popular site

:23:29. 99, :23:34.2 7
Buddhists come, tourists, all kind of people, Mongolians come.

:23:34.449, :23:39.52
Some of them lie down on the ground and rub their neck against

:23:39.52 , :23:45.
hoping to receive some blessings. They believe that’s a power spot right.

:23:45.927, :23:55.567
but Danzanravjaa was only one of many Mongolian lamas who sought to bring their home

:23:55.567, :23:59.76
regions and monasteries into the Shambhala
lineage. Excuse me, I just get this.

:24: 2.56 , :24: 3.84
It’s very dry here.

:24: 6. 8 , :24: 4.7 7
And so they also you know, saw this connection with that. They have a connection to the Shakya clan

:24: 4.7 7, :24:23.2 5
you know, Shukyamuni Buddha. Because according to even some Tibetan but also Mongolian

:24:23.44 , :24:32.675
accounts, traditional accounts it is that it was a member of a Shakya clan, of a Buddhist clan who went

:24:33. 23, :24:4 .6 5
into that place land of Shambhas and established brought the relic of Buddha and established Shambhala.

:24:42.82 , :24:49.776
But among these lamas and noblemen who were seeking refuge

:24:5 .88 , :24:59.2
where there was a hereditary prince saint laurent
han by name namasuren who had a prominent role

:24:59.2 , :25: 6.
in mongolian independence movement from the
qing and who later served as a prime minister

:25: 6. , :25: 4.8
of the jet ambassadors bukhtan state for about
four years according to oral accounts he succeeded

:25: 4.8 , :25:22.24
in bringing his territory into the shambhala
lineage owing to the assistance of the ed vogjetsu

:25:22.24 , :25:29. 4
number who was supposedly in the possession
of a ring with a magical stone called there

:25:29.92 , :25:37.68
and the stone is said to have been originally
brought from utah mountain by the fourth jet sunda

:25:38.48 , :25:45.2
and its power is believed to be such that by
merely holding the ring one was able to transform

:25:46. 8 , :25:55.68
one herself into the king in 24- desire and so
then by the means of the trink the eight jetson

:25:55.68 , :26: 2.32
manifested himself the story says in the form
of a king of shambhala in the presence of the

:26: 2.88 , :26: .2
gatekeeper of shambhala and basically told
him get commanded the gatekeeper to grant

:26: 2. 8 , :26:2 . 6
this nobleman inclusion into the shambhala millage
and it is said that for that purpose then this

:26:2 . 6 , :26:29.44
ceno young han made many offerings and gained
to chaturdumba and gained great merit and it is

:26:29.44 , :26:36.56
said that due to establishing this connection
with the shambhala lineage and the noble hands

:26:36.56 , :26:44.48
territory never had any debt in the time when all
other terrorist territories experiencing great

:26:45.68 , :26:5 .84
economic problems after the qings
left so the eighth jet sudha

:26:56. , :26:57.44
at the request of this

:27: .68 , :27: 7.76
and the prayer expresses this desire and
aspiration to enter the companionship with

:27: 7.76 , :27: 3.84
the kalki raudra chakri at the time of a
great war against these barbarian forces

:27: 5. 2 , :27: 9.44
yesterday please repeat where he got
the ring from where the ring came from

:27: 9.44 , :27:25. 4
so the ring came from to say that it
was brought by the fourth jet number

:27:25. 4 , :27:3 .44
uh from the uttarshan mountain which is one
of the also important pilgrimage size for my

:27:32.32 , :27:4 .56
site for mahayana buddhists and where also
mongols would go into for pilgrimage as well

:27:44. 8 , :27:5 .36
now the social and political changes in the early
2 th century mongolia that led to the struggle you

:27:5 .36 , :27:58.96
know not only for liberation from the qing but
also struggle against the han mashing warlords

:27:58.96 , :28: 6.32
and also bolsheviks and revolutionary formation
of the revolutionary government in mongolia

:28: 7.84 , :28: 5.84
all that period was perceived by mongolian
buddhists as a threat to the traditional mongolian

:28: 6.72 , :28:26.64
way of life and buddhist way of life so the
perceived danger gave rise to strong incentive

:28:26.64 , :28:35.28
for the increased production of these aspirational
prayers rituals power practices for shambhala

:28:35.28 , :28:4 . 4
kala chakra guru yoga texts eulogies
to the kalki kings of shambhala

:28:4 . 4 , :28:5 .52
ritual manuals and it just this array of texts
were just bringing um up from during these periods

:28:53.68 , :28:58.24
but this was also a period of gradual
and steady secularization of society

:28:58.24 , :29: 3.52
under this you know communist ideal ideology which

:29: 5.28 , :29: 2.32
kind of propagating the buddhism is under
unrealistic cruel deceptive without future

:29: 2.32 , :29:24.56
and so on and so in the mid 93 s you know most
monasteries were destroyed in mongolia and this

:29:24.56 , :29:37. 4
was began to be persecution of monks imprisonments
secular secularization of monks by force right and

:29:38.88 , :29:48.64
amongst imprisonment killing and so
on all of this kind of um uh gave rise

:29:49.76 , :29:57.68
to this strong desire for rivers in shambhala
and not to be reborn again in this very

:29:58.4 , :3 : 8.24
turbulent social time during the communist parties
when when the monks were facing execution by

:3 : 9. 4 , :3 :2 .84
the firing squad one llama by name picture paulden
then composed the short poor practice for monks

:3 :2 .84 , :3 :3 .96
who then were recited few minutes or a minute
or so before they were shot to death and it read

:3 :3 .96 , :3 :38.8
from now onward may i achieve the fine body in
shambhala the celestial realm of khasar panadweep

:3 :4 .24 , :3 :47.2
is vajrapani’s place right and when my various
appearances arise may i attain the power of

:3 :47.2 , :3 :54.24
being pierced by the sword of laws sword of
wisdom and this is what monks were recited

:3 :55.44 , :3 : . 4
with hope that this prayer will lead them
directly into new ribbons in shambhala

:3 : 3.36 , :3 : 8.96
at the dawn of the revolutionary period when
young mongolian revolutionaries promised to

:3 : 8.96 , :3 : 6.32
restore the state and religion in mongolia and
when buddhism and communist ideology had not

:3 : 6.32 , :3 :24. 6
yet come into direct conflict shambhala is
an idealized world became a symbol of a new

:3 :24. 6 , :3 :3 .88
social reality among mongolian revolutionary young
revolutionaries promoted their efforts against the

:3 :3 .88 , :3 :4 . 6
chinese republican army in who occupied mongolia’s
capital in 9 9 is a religious fight for shambhala

:3 :4 . 6 , :3 :48.24
for them shambhala was a metaphor for a free
mongolian society and for this kind of heroic

:3 :48.24 , :3 :58.64
national future but how did mongols perceive
shambhala that’s interesting when i spoke with

:3 :59.6 , :32: 7.68
kendri rinpoche said based on his own
experiences in meditation and analysis and so on

:32: 8.64 , :32: 6.56
he says shambhala is really like a mental place
and then of course there are those who claim that

:32: 6.56 , :32:22.64
shambhala is terrestrial place a geographical
macau right somewhere around this jungle

:32:23.84 , :32:33.92
in our cosmic system considering that it
this consists of 9 million villages uh how

:32:33.92 , :32:39.6
where would that be right this religion not
just villages they’re more like towns so um

:32:4 .24 , :32:47.76
even his holiness says it must be on some other
plane it’s not on this planet however when we

:32:47.76 , :32:55.84
look at mongolian writings and i check different
kind of genre of literature you could say that

:32:57.92 , :33: 5.52
in their view mongolia is all of three
mongolia is a physical place terrestrial place

:33: 5.52 , :33: 9.52
it is a celestial soccerity and this is a state of

:33: 9.52 , :33: 7.68
mind and that and you get an impression that
that shambhala can be in all of these three

:33: 7.68 , :33:25. 4
at the same time that it all depends on
the perception of individual which is then

:33:27.36 , :33:37.68
dependent on the levels of mental obscurations
that while some may see shambhala as a physical

:33:37.68 , :33:45.84
place either as a celestial and yet some
will experience it as a state of the mind

:33:47.44 , :33:55.44
so for some goalies it was a physical place not
very far from mongolia because it’s always in the

:33:55.44 , :34: 2.24
writings of shambhala including even chakra tantra
itself it says it is a northern shambhala in the

:34: 2.24 , :34: .48
north right in the northern section of jambudvipa
so then mongolias believe that it is right closed

:34: .48 , :34: 7.36
and so there were llamas who claimed that they
actually went to shambhala and they brought many

:34: 7.36 , :34:24. 8
stories and even legend how they went there
and some said that they came and they brought

:34:25.44 , :34:3 .44
certain items with magical
powers like a piece of um

:34:32.96 , :34:38.56
you not christopher cherry how you
say um what’s the english word um

:34:4 .56 , :34:46.56
you know like from a tree when you take
and then not the crust what do you say bach

:34:49.44 , :34:58. 8
such a common word yeah like from a bark
of a tree could um um you could peel it

:34:58. 8 , :35: 5.6
and water yogurt image always shows up or
they brought like a jewel red jewel from um

:35: 8.24 , :35: 5.92
from a kind of a crown of a maga and so on
so you and also in among the buryat mongols

:35: 5.92 , :35:28. 8
there are stories like this that shambhala is also
next door basically to siberia and and so on but

:35:29. 4 , :35:36.88
so you have this kind of descriptions on one hand
on another hand and and these descriptions give us

:35:36.88 , :35:44. 6
very details of how people look like how
what is the layout of the land of shambhala

:35:44. 6 , :35:53.28
how color chakra mandala looks there the palace
of the karaki king you know mountains nature

:35:53.28 , :36: 2.56
what people wear you know how many sermons they
have all of that so on some level it looks like a

:36: 3.76 , :36: 2.8
terrestrial kingdom but kind of more spiritually
advanced kingdom on the other hand when you

:36: 2.8 , :36: 9. 2
read prayers and sourness then you see
that this is something one is to imagine

:36:2 .36 , :36:3 .64
and one is imagining it to create this kind of
karmic connection with rambala so then so that

:36:3 .64 , :36:4 .32
when one dies or at the time when one is ready uh
to enter the shambhala that one already knows what

:36:4 .32 , :36:49.92
to expect kind of one already has in one’s own
mind created the place it knows exactly so we’ll

:36:49.92 , :36:56.64
recognize the place as soon as one israeli
born there you look at how they know i mean

:36:59.36 , :37: .32
so in the

:37: 2.64 , :37: .64
uh there was a mongolian author by name again
who wrote a text called the swift pass to kalapa

:37: .64 , :37: 6.88
the compilation of the layout of shambhala and
ritual offerings to the car keys the dharma

:37: 6.88 , :37:27.28
kings and here if you read dimensions of shambhala
are given in details it is said and that you know

:37:27.28 , :37:35.84
it is a norse kind of um well the
central small jump between there is

:37:43. 2 , :37:5 .72
and then in the west is odiana and in the north is
shambhala and abode of human guitar with hierarchy

:37:5 .36 , :38: . 6
so and i don’t know how much time we have we’ve
got some time so okay so maybe then like a little

:38: . 6 , :38: 8.8
bit speak about it so in this descriptions even
in ones that where one visualizes uh shambhala

:38: 8.8 , :38: 7.28
um it is it is still like within the land of
karma it is a human realm within the land of

:38: 7.28 , :38:25.52
karma it is perfectly secular in this form of
lotus with this you know in its center it’s a

:38:25.52 , :38:35.76
petals the periphery of the lotus is ringed with
a range of snow mountains uh and it’s like a

:38:37.2 , :38:42.88
peta it’s like a petal with sorry lotus
with eight petals so it has this different

:38:43.52 , :38:5 .6
like principalities if you like um and so the
of course all this environment is so beautiful

:38:5 .6 , :39: 3.76
and i won’t bother you with all these um details
and kicking um dwells in this crystal palace and

:39: 3.76 , :39: . 4
on the surfaces of the skylights which you can
see all the realms of gods and what they are

:39: . 4 , :39: 8.96
doing and you have this direct access right
to them and you see planets and stars and

:39:2 .64 , :39:27.84
solar mansions and everything kind
of very clearly right and he he’s

:39:28.48 , :39:36.88
he’s surrounded he’s in these thrones um around
him which are made of multicolored sandalwood

:39:36.88 , :39:47.36
floor pleasant fragrances spread for miles and of
course there are these everything is rich jewelry

:39:47.36 , :39:56. 6
just on him exceed the value of the gold
god indra’s kind of jewelry he’s his body

:39:58.64 , :4 : 9.44
is brilliant it prevails pervades space with
this light and luster and it is difficult to

:4 : 9.44 , :4 : 5.6
bear his magnificent if you are near
him vesna is this the the vision of

:4 : 5.6 , :4 :22.24
the celestial shambhala that you are sharing
that’s a reason that’s what one is imagining

:4 :22.24 , :4 :29.2
visualizing so it’s it’s one is
visualizing and this is also like a

:4 :29.2 , :4 :37.84
both terrestrial and visualized
one which is like a celestial um

:4 :38.4 , :4 :42.56
sukhavati so that’s kind of like it is a pure land

:4 :44.8 , :4 :5 .
you know and in pure land cinema okay
namitha spirulin people are born from

:4 :5 . , :4 :56.64
lotus but in octopias they are born by
mere glancing each others or near touch

:4 :56.64 , :4 : 5.36
somebody is being conceived and so on so
here it’s um similar to that and obviously

:4 : 5.36 , :4 : 2.56
these descriptions why is one visualizing all of
these details in addition to familiarize oneself

:4 : 2.56 , :4 :2 .64
with the shambhala is also to get inspired it
like when face grows one inspiration to grow

:4 :2 .2 , :4 :34.
for reapers there also increases and then one will
be ready to be kind to engage in these practices

:4 :34. , :4 :4 .92
of course there are young whenever a young prince
is born there he’s he’s like this precious radiant

:4 :4 .92 , :4 :49.6
jewel that radiates for seven days and so on
and um there are long descriptions but it’s

:4 :49.6 , :4 :58.8
too much detail so i’ll escape this now again
when we read and we say that and we read that

:4 :58.8 , :42: 5.2
all the kings of shambhala because there are
these minor kings that rule over million

:42: 6.24 , :42: 3.92
villages or towns that they’re all
buddhas and bodhisattvas of the th stage

:42: 5.68 , :42:26. 6
so also when they are kind of referencing
shambhala as a sukhavati is this pure land

:42:26. 6 , :42:34. 8
then the speak of shambhala is being created
by the mind of majirapani just like amitabh

:42:34. 8 , :42:44.8
is his own mind created in the west uh in
the east so the lord of secrets the guardian

:42:44.8 , :42:57.84
of tantra and mahayana teachings right has
with his own mind manifested this shambhala

:42:58.48 , :43: 9.68
now by going back to uh to these symbolizes of
vajrayana place this is where all the mahayana

:43: . 2 , :43: 7. 2
teachings as well as all the highest
yoga tantras being taught in practice

:43: 8. 8 , :43:26. 6
but now going back briefly to this so-called
terrestrial shambhala they say one can go there

:43:26. 6 , :43:32.96
but there are numerous dangers awaiting those
who are journeyed in the present body and

:43:34. 6 , :43:42.88
these dangers are described in panchayat llamas
guide to shambhala in many mongolian texts as well

:43:44.8 , :43:5 . 4
and so this is but they say since reapers in
shambhala seems empirically more attainable

:43:5 . 4 , :43:59.2
and secure due to the power of aspiration and
prayers rituals and sadness then it’s better

:43:59.2 , :44: 7. 2
to pray for ibra than try to go there even one of
the kalki kings of chamberlain his priest when he

:44: 7. 2 , :44: 5.6
was a great bodhisattva in his previous life when
he tried to travel to shambhala that physically

:44: 5.6 , :44:23.52
he couldn’t endure that it is that kind
of difficult that one needs to if you look

:44:23.52 , :44:32.
in these different guides of to shambhala they all
say you know you start in bodhgaya and these are

:44:32. , :44:39.2
treacherous journalism in which you do tremendous
amount of practices it’s a long journey and

:44:4 .44 , :44:46.72
exposure to all kind of danger but
also lots of practices of purification

:44:46.72 , :44:52.64
so again you get a sense you’re kind of
going like inter-terrestrial but in fact

:44:52.64 , :44:57.92
along the way you’re purifying yourself
and when you enter it maybe it’s not that

:44:58.88 , :45: 5.68
physical or that kind of terrestrial anymore it’s
you almost get the sense it’s then more like a

:45: 6.24 , :45: 2. 6
parallel universe if you like are you able
to describe some of the obstacles in a

:45: 2. 6 , :45: 7.84
little bit more detail if you can yeah that
along the way one encountering all kind of

:45: 8.96 , :45:26.48
spirits and entities who are trying to prevent one
but also along the way there are fierce guardians

:45:26.48 , :45:34.32
of shambhala who are not letting you in unless
you have been purified through mental afflictions

:45:34.96 , :45:46.48
um and karmic negativities and so on so but then
also uh like in one place one had to do hundred

:45:46.48 , :45:53.44
thousands times of rituals and pujas to go
this hariti so that when one steps in in the

:45:53.44 , :46: 2.48
next territory will not get small parks you
know then even travels of different countries

:46: 2.48 , :46: 2.
and areas these dangerous people as well so there
are spiritual spirit entities the regardless of

:46: 2. , :46: 8.56
shambhala don’t want you easily to get in and
so on but it’s interesting they also reference

:46: 8.56 , :46:24.88
these merchants who by mistake when they are you
know so that’s kind of interesting how did they

:46:24.88 , :46:33.92
and and they are so they say to be able to travel
to reach shambhala that way you have to be a

:46:33.92 , :46:4 .52
master of vidya mantras you know you need to have
all this extra sensory perception be able to fly

:46:4 .52 , :46:49.92
and you know already have all of these miraculous
powers otherwise like just traveling with the rock

:46:49.92 , :46:55.84
with a backpack and a sleeping bag
will not you got you’ll get nowhere so

:46:58.8 , :47: .32
the first book jets

:47: 4.56 , :47: 2.56
in some of um kind of these histories that
he actually knew how to get to shambhala

:47: 2.56 , :47:2 .36
and that at one occasion two indian yogis traveled
on a carpet flying carpet arrived to mongolia

:47:22. 8 , :47:26.64
and didn’t know where to go from there and then um

:47:3 .44 , :47:4 .24
told them uh how to go and they said well you will
come to this sita river and you don’t touch it

:47:4 .24 , :47:47.44
because the moment you touch it the body part of
body will freeze and fall off so you wait until

:47:47.44 , :47:55.84
this big fish monster fish comes and takes you
across the river so the story says those two came

:47:55.84 , :48: 4.8
and the younger this yogi indian yogi he wanted
to try and he put his finger and the finger fell

:48: 4.8 , :48: .88
off and something happened to him he’s no longer
mentioned like he has never returned maybe he died

:48: .68 , :48: 7.44
but this uh all the yogi comes and reported
and became very afraid deciding not to

:48: 8.4 , :48:28. 6
not to pursue shambhala so that’s why when all
these dangers and risk risks are explained then

:48:28. 6 , :48:34.88
it is said that those who wish to journey to
the entrance of the land of shambhala in this

:48:35.92 , :48:43. 2
lifetime definitely need to accumulate married and
accomplish the dharma of the secret mantra and and

:48:43. 2 , :48:53.28
if it is not accomplished then it is impossible
to travel so after describing various times and

:48:53.28 , :49: .76
dangers that all that the travelers will encounter
encountered along the way then we read about uh

:49: .76 , :49: . 8
that for this reason a journey to to chamberlain
this life should be kind of avoided but

:49: 2.4 , :49:22.
it’s rather to focus on for on rivers in shambhala
but of course we also read of those who saw it who

:49:22. , :49:3 .84
visited it in a dream and where uh we traveled
with us disciples there received some teaching

:49:3 .84 , :49:43.84
witness something then returned back one of the
mongolian great masters of the 9th 2 th century

:49:44.56 , :49:52.32
mind you shira in his were called the dual step
of a fortunate disciple a prayer for definite

:49:52.32 , :49:58.8
rivers in the land of shambhala of the great city
that’s what shambhala is place of a great scene

:5 : . 4 , :5 : 5.44
he talks about it as clearly
as a marvelous pure land

:5 : 6.96 , :5 : 4.48
of wajirapani but one can attain buddhahood
within a single lifetime and in his understanding

:5 : 4.48 , :5 :22.64
shambhala is this tantric sukhavati of the human
realm or he calls this the place of the highest

:5 :22.64 , :5 :3 .72
city the marvelous pure and um and similar
view we find expressed in other mongolian

:5 :3 .72 , :5 :38.24
works like a grand and the surrenders were called
the so if passed to kalapadata of the dimension

:5 :39. 2 , :5 :46.88
and other works that is where uh chandelier
spoken of is a sublime mandala of the earth

:5 :46.88 , :5 :53.84
which is rotated by the wheel of dharma of
the awakened of the guaranteed awakening

:5 :54.4 , :5 : .52
and celebrated by the illusory dance of
the bodhisattvas the sons of genus who are

:5 : .52 , :5 : 7.84
not none other than the seven
dharma kings of and the 25 car keys

:5 : .28 , :5 : 7.36
described in many texts as i already
mentioned as enlightened beings

:5 : 7.36 , :5 :26.64
who have extra sensory perceptions magic powers
inexhaustible wisdom unimpeded mind and so on

:5 :29.84 , :5 :38.72
and they all they’re all rulers as well so the
explicit you could almost say when you surveyed

:5 :38.72 , :5 :46. 6
this literature that explicit references to
shambhala as this pure land of celestial sukhavati

:5 :46.72 , :5 :57.28
appear in this later works 9 and 2 th century
um and then we don’t you know we don’t yet have

:5 :57.28 , :52: 4. 8
all text examined so we so i am not here
giving here definitive statement but based

:52: 4. 8 , :52: 4.4
on so far that i could have found these references
uh quite late but then so we now let’s talk about

:52: 4.96 , :52:2 .28
briefly we still have at least eight minutes
yes you can we have another half an hour but

:52:2 .28 , :52:27.92
we’re hoping to get some questions in as well
um business so um you say what you need to say

:52:27.92 , :52:34.32
and if we can leave some time for questions
that would be great sure so it is in this ex

:52:34.96 , :52:4 .28
there are short power practices in their extensive
proper practices and it is here in these proper

:52:4 .28 , :52:5 .8
practices for reapers in shambhala then where it
is indicated in a way that this is the symbol is

:52:5 .8 , :52:59.28
a state of mind so after bringing to mind what
one does in this practice is energy describe

:52:59.28 , :53: 4.88
only one here because we don’t have time that
after breathing to mind that actually describe

:53: 4.88 , :53: .84
the appearances of shambhala kind of after
one reads she sees images of shambhala arrive

:53: .84 , :53: 9.2
and then generates aspiration for that first one
is to visualize it and then so it’s like a steps

:53:2 .72 , :53:29.36
by this time this visualize shambhala is already
celestial pure land purely mental state right

:53:29.36 , :53:35. 4
because it’s created by the mind it’s now what
you visualize is a reflection of your own mind

:53:35.6 , :53:45.36
it’s no longer just geographic region and so um
this transition from the visualizing shambhala

:53:47.28 , :53:57.2
is as if it is a geographical locale to this
intangible place in the phase of a practice

:53:57.2 , :54: 6.8
marks a move from a move to subtle visual realm of
mental state that bridges the initial first stage

:54: 6.8 , :54: 4.88
of this power practice where one is basically look
uh reading descriptions of shambhala or looking

:54: 4.88 , :54:2 . 2
at the representative artistic representations
of shambhala right that was kind of a gross

:54:2 . 2 , :54:3 .24
perception now it’s somewhat subtle perception
by looking through that image and so but in this

:54:3 .24 , :54:4 .52
also visualization one is to imagine oneself in
front of the kings of shambhala paying them homage

:54:44. 8 , :54:53.44
sometimes bathing them then dress massaging them
with oil dressing them praising them making them

:54:53.44 , :55: .56
offerings you know it’s a long visualization
so that one is visualizing not only place where

:55: .56 , :55: 8.64
where one will be but one is also already
visualizing what will he do or she would do one

:55: 8.64 , :55: 6.
day once they’re there right and find themselves
in the presence of these king cow keys and so on

:55: 9.36 , :55:26.24
and so after visually constructing this
otherworldly shamana shambhala then one is to

:55:28. 8 , :55:35.68
imaginatively act as a said act in the
sacred space by creating all of these

:55:37. 2 , :55:46.56
activists activities but then in the subsequent
core proper practice the visualization culminates

:55:46.56 , :55:56.48
in the subtle test in the most subtle image in a
light at the heart in a symbolic representation

:55:56.48 , :56: 4. 6
of one’s prana mind that will rise in the border
state and lead to the direct to the direction

:56: 4.96 , :56: .36
of shambhala and death when the clear light of
death appears along with the dissolution of the

:56: .36 , :56: 9. 4
four gla great elements then steering on the
subtle mind with prana for ibra of shambhala

:56: 9. 4 , :56:27. 4
occurs immediately followed by the dissolution of
this light of clear light and then as soon as a

:56:27. 4 , :56:34.96
bardo being for shambhala is foreign then white
light appears in the direction of shambhala in the

:56:34.96 , :56:42.96
northern direction and following the direction
of that white light without fear exhaustion or

:56:42.96 , :56:48.56
shock the bird of beings and reaches the land
of this majestic shambhala in a single moment

:56:5 . 6 , :56:59.28
but to come to that one has to visualize than
oneself one’s own body is a transparent crystal

:57: .64 , :57: . 8
and visualizes the central channel and on the
top of the central channel there is a symbol

:57: . 8 , :57: 7.28
that represents already this mind of shama
i feel like this right is a state of mind

:57:2 . 6 , :57:29.2
and so um this um so it appears that by
imaginatively perceiving itself as a special realm

:57:29.2 , :57:37.2
of light that subtle mind family familiarizes
itself with with its eventual appearance in the

:57:37.2 , :57:43.36
bardo state in which it can realize that shambhala
is nothing other than its own inner light

:57:45. 4 , :57:49. 2
so does the understanding is that every appearance

:57:49.76 , :57:55.2
i would say an experience of shambhala
where the geographical place in our real

:57:55.2 , :58: 2. 8
world or is purely mental is contingent on the
subtlety of the mind that perceive it and so

:58: 4.24 , :58: 2.8
in the context of the power practice these discus
modes of visual perception imaginative recreation

:58: 2.8 , :58: 9.36
and familiarizations recollection are the
means of generating incrementally new and

:58: 9.36 , :58:3 .64
subtle levels of awareness so whether terrestrial
celestial or internal in mongolian writing the

:58:3 .64 , :58:4 .4
requirements necessary for realizing shambhala are
reminiscent of those in the pure land practices

:58:42.64 , :58:47.52
three main conditions must be met
for guaranteed rebels in shambhala

:58:48. 6 , :58:55. 2
one is the accumulation of merit and knowledge
gnosis purification of the obstacles of sin

:58:55.92 , :59: 2.48
and the third has to be a wishful generation
of wishful prayer or aspiration to be there

:59: 3.44 , :59: 8.8
without it you won’t be born there you won’t
realize shambhala you have to have this connect

:59: 8.8 , :59: 4.
this kind of a connection right
same as when one prays to amitabha

:59: 4.72 , :59:23.6
to take him and be liberal in his fearland so
the vicious prayers must be of the four types

:59:24.32 , :59:3 .88
a prayer for the connection with the with
the structure and composition of the land

:59:3 .76 , :59:36.72
accompanied by saddam on the land of shambhala
that’s why are those visualizations that’s why

:59:36.72 , :59:42.56
those descriptions right then prayer
for being conceived in shambhala

:59:42.56 , :59:49.76
a prayer for encountering raud rakalke the
king of shambhala there in a prayer for his

:59:49.76 , :59:55.28
prayer for listening to his teachings and
a prayer for achieving enlightenment there

:59:56.96 , : : 5.28
and then one who practices in this way is
promised to reach shambhala in a single moment so

: : 8.88 , : : 6.
so we have this right inwardly oriented and
outwardly oriented practices that will create

: : 6. , : :24.4
these different levels of the mind and give
us different perceptions of what how shambhala

: :24.4 , : :32.24
is understood or talked about or how it can be
realized but you know there’s so much more and i

: :32.24 , : :38.88
see it’s already seven right you told me one hour
and then we have questions and answers and maybe

: :4 .32 , : :46.96
i can always add something in question and
answers beautiful thank you so much um vesna

: :47.52 , : :55.84
um if anyone has any questions can you
please pop it in the q a section of the chat

: :57.92 , : : 4.96
and i will look at those so i have a
couple already vestner if you are ready

: : 8.32 , : : 4.32
can you talk a little bit more about the magical
ring of jetson dumper and that allowed him to

: : 4.32 , : :23. 4
travel to shambala does the ring still exist we
don’t know and maybe it is because there are many

: :23. 4 , : :32.88
treasures like this that are kept in special
kind of places within let’s say gandalf monastery

: :34.96 , : :44.
that are never shown that that are never so to
others um that are considered sometimes it’s

: :44. , : :5 .28
a relics i was told of course never saw that
there was in one of these temples or colleges

: :5 .28 , : :58.48
in ghana monasteries that there is even a rib
of the pankara buddha relic which looks like a

: :59.44 , : 2: 8.24
transparent crystal but it’s a rib you know so
maybe that ring is somewhere held as a treasury

: 2: 8.88 , : 2: 7.84
and it’s not look so i myself have never seen
it or i don’t know anyone who has seen it so i

: 2: 7.84 , : 2:28.64
can’t say it anymore but you know this stone it’s
called the uh and in tibetan as well so right i

: 2:28.64 , : 2:36. 8
mean there are lots of the fake ones that you know
you can find in the police tourist shops and so on

: 2:36. 8 , : 2:47.84
but the authentic ones are very rare to find and
supposedly that’s how story says it went thank you

: 2:48.64 , : 2:54.8
can you please elaborate a little
m more on the jhana values no

: 2:56.96 , : 3: 4.56
there is at least in the color chakra system
oh it says alex’s uh question uh i have not

: 3: 4.56 , : 3: 5.84
heard of jinyana or heard of that there is i i
don’t know if he’s if alex is referring to uh

: 3: 8.64 , : 3:26.88
this mind value because my this mind why is
still not awakened mind that’s why it has

: 3:26.88 , : 3:36.24
volume means wind right so um it’s still not the
wind but there is this consciousness right that

: 3:38.8 , : 3:42.56
that still has some wind that enters
let’s say shambhala but then there

: 3:42.56 , : 3:48.64
when one achieves enlightenment we don’t know
whether that mind will still be there or just

: 3:5 . 4 , : 3:59.28
is pure awareness i yeah but i never heard of
that term in the karma chakra tantra itself

: 4: .2 , : 4: 7.28
thank you so i see can you talk a little
bit more about vajrapani’s connection

: 4: 7.28 , : 4: 4.64
to color chakra yeah that’s already in
imala prabha this demonstrate commentary

: 4: 5.52 , : 4:2 .8
one of which is the oldest and most
authoritative commentary on kala chakra

: 4:2 .8 , : 4:33.44
tantra mentioned uh that it is vajrapani who
who was who was told by the buddha right to

: 4:34. 6 , : 4:4 . 2
be one to guards all the mahayana and all
the teachings and all the tantras and so

: 4:4 . 2 , : 4:47.76
in mongolia what japan is of course very important
just like india is considered to be the land of

: 4:48.64 , : 4:58.4
chenrezig and china is a land of manjushri so
is mongolia considered to be the land of ajrpani

: 4:59. 4 , : 5: 5.36
and but we find it even in ropa’s
writings on kala chakra that

: 5: 7.44 , : 5: 4.8
that land of shambhala is created by the
mind of majirapani and that you see chandra

: 5: 8.48 , : 5:29. 2
chandra was was but anyway future um car key will
be again emanation for japanese the 24th so you

: 5:29. 2 , : 5:34.24
know we have emanations of manjushris but you
know like yashas in shambhala but we have also

: 5:34.96 , : 5:42.
chandra as a nation of hyderabadi as well so
that’s a strong connection between these two

: 5:43. 4 , : 5:5 .2
thank you right and then let’s see how far is
the shambhala site from erdenzu it’s quite far

: 5:5 .2 , : 6: . 8
from eden zoo because urban zoo is about i don’t
know depends on the road and a car or one goes but

: 6: . 8 , : 6: 2.8
could be seven hours by jeep so it would be maybe
4 hours right from elden zoo but it’s closer

: 6: 3.44 , : 6:22.24
to lombard so from mulan batter by car if you want
to take a little break in between it could be six

: 6:22.24 , : 6:3 .36
to let’s say six hours if you don’t want all to
go at once but there is also a train that goes

: 6:33. 2 , : 6:43.28
you know and it’s a longer longer journey and and
all you see is just the desert so i i suggest a

: 6:52.88 , : 6:58.8
if we want to help people on earth uh is there
still a valid motivation for seeking rebirth in

: 6:58.8 , : 7: 7. 2
shambhala aside from achieving the mental
state of mental state realization yeah so

: 7: 7. 2 , : 7: 3.36
it’s not like oh everyone has to go to special
location necessarily to do it it’s only that

: 7: 4.8 , : 7:23.68
you know in in this mongolian constitution who
felt uh such as again such a strong connection

: 7:24.32 , : 7:3 .88
uh to shambhala and it’s connected of course
to prophecies that he said this is a power

: 7:3 .88 , : 7:36.96
spot this is where that vision appears and
this is where this place should be built

: 7:37.52 , : 7:46.8
um but what was it going to say i one year when
i was traveling by group of visitors at uh there

: 7:47.44 , : 7:58.
and we encountered the terrible um sandstorm
on that way but once we entered that

: 7:58.96 , : 8: 7.44
place immediately stopped there was not a
single uh not even a breeze sky was blue again

: 8: 7.44 , : 8: 3.28
and it was tremendously peaceful
uh you know you can hear many

: 8: 4.56 , : 8:2 .8
in incidents and stories and experiences
that some people had one of the

: 8:2 .76 , : 8:29.84
custodians of denzen ravja who unfortunately
passed away told me that his brother who was a

: 8:32.48 , : 8:4 .56
nomad not particularly educated man once spent
the night there and yes yes we were told you

: 8:4 .56 , : 8:47.52
never to spend the money there because it’s a very
powerful place and it can cause lots of confusions

: 8:47.52 , : 8:57.2
uh and uh if you’re not ready don’t
go at night but he says his brother

: 8:58.64 , : 9: 5.84
stayed there i don’t know maybe he had camels
outside something like this and that he was

: 9: 7.2 , : 9: 5.92
looking after that in the morning he wandered
off completely lost in the desert and they took

: 9: 5.92 , : 9:24. 8
a long time for them to find him and they were
very worried because you can get lost especially

: 9:24. 8 , : 9:32.24
without water and they found you know we found
him after i don’t know one day or so and they ask

: 9:32.24 , : 9:39.76
him how did you manage without water maybe it was
more than one day and he said some old man showed

: 9:39.76 , : 9:48.32
up and gave me water strange but then they said
he said he started to recite beautiful poetry

: 9:5 .32 , : 9:57.28
he never resided poetry or composing composing
poetry but suddenly like it was like this

: 9:57.28 , : : 4.72
river pointer coming out of him so there
are you know stories like that about uh

: : 9.2 , : : 5.68
this power thought so that like this is something
special you create the power you create connection

: : 5.68 , : :24.
not only like with um this place but like
because i’ve just said this is where he will be

: :24. , : :29.2
born in next life so to his students and
disciples he said you want to meet me

: :29.2 , : :32.4
you need to meet come to somewhere
that’s where i wait for you

: :34. , : :4 .64
and i will describe once we’re there everything
you need to do how process of purification takes

: :4 .64 , : :49.52
place and every input can lead everybody
to meditation so prayer for representation

: :5 .84 , : :59.44
okay uh back to the location vesna um what
is uh the location of the shambhala portal

: :59.44 , : : 4. 8
shown in the photo can you talk a
little bit more about it yes it is

: : 9.28 , : : 2.32
it’s very sound you know in the south you have

: : 3. 2 , : :24.
three gobbies don govi don govi and southern garbe
so this is in the don gori district um you saw the

: :24. , : :29.2
place home mainly looks likes but it’s
that particular region it has a lot of

: :3 . 6 , : :4 .64
red copper kind of colored stones when once we are
there we will also visit meditation caves which

: :4 .64 , : :48. 8
are 2 minutes away from there but also ravja
used to go and meditate and when you sit inside

: :49.36 , : :54.96
in some of those caves especially one day
when raja meditated and you look out into

: :54.96 , : 2: .44
this expanse place where soil changes its colors
you forget you’re on this planet you think you’re

: 2: .44 , : 2: .48
on a mars or some other you know uh planet for
sure and this is said where ravja used to go but

: 2: .48 , : 2: 7.6
also other llamas of that region but he would
go there and he would have his disciple close

: 2: 9.68 , : 2:27.44
completely cave with stone so he would
be doing a kind of night retreat there

: 2:28. 8 , : 2:36.88
and sometimes it was there that he would from the
elements in space he would create these visions

: 2:36.88 , : 2:43.68
he would bring these visions into manifestation
somehow but llamas used to go there to do their

: 2:43.68 , : 2:5 .92
regular retreats and they would usually then
somebody like people would come on a camel

: 2:52.64 , : 2:58.96
or i don’t know who you don’t see really horses
there but mainly camels and uh bring them a

: 2:58.96 , : 3: 7.68
tea there was a little hole in the roof and
that’s how they would do the retreats there

: 3: 8.64 , : 3: 7.84
uh but um also we when we’re there we will
also visit holy site mountain holy mountain

: 3: 9.28 , : 3:3 .84
where it is said uh that is that is inhabited
by the one of previous ravages incarnations uh

: 3:33.2 , : 3:38.8
and there are many stories about
that that you will also hear

: 3:42.8 , : 3:5 . 8
also some miraculous appearances and things like
that and but all of these visits are the sites

: 3:5 . 8 , : 3:58.24
of kind of purification burning ones kind of
since confessing on a paper one writes one

: 4: .96 , : 4: 5.6
like what one remembers right
and then writes them down

: 4: 5.6 , : 4: .76
then put them in the prettiest belly
in one of these you will see stones

: 4: 2.4 , : 4:22.8
inside the shambhala place and brundala so fizzy
pretty but brazil seems beautiful thank you

: 4:25.44 , : 4:35.36
you mentioned earlier that uh um shambhala is
a state of vajrapani’s mind in mongolia or is

: 4:35.36 , : 4:42.32
that is that just in mongolian view or is that a
universal view you find it in index source like in

: 4:42.32 , : 4:5 .28
naropa’s text um not this one but yeah in another
one yeah where it says it was created by madrid

: 4:52.24 , : 5: . 8
you know same same as with all other pure parents
they all said to be they come out of aspirations

: 5: .8 , : 5: 9.28
that bodhisattvas had one day may i create
this pure land in in which then everything

: 5: 9.28 , : 5: 7.84
is prepared and made to be conducive to achieving
enlightenment safely and once one is already in

: 5: 7.84 , : 5:23.84
in a pure land in let’s say in shambhala
it says one can travel to other pure lands

: 5:25. 4 , : 5:3 .28
one is not stuck in just in one one can go
and visit amitabha’s pure land and so on and

: 5:3 .28 , : 5:44.24
it is said that at the time of a big shambhala
war that nagarjuna and tongkapa who are now in

: 5:45.84 , : 5:49.76
according to mango some of mongolian
sources they are now in shambhala

: 5:5 .96 , : 5:58.88
and they will descend in they will descend their
relics they will take those relics that are still

: 5:58.88 , : 6: 6.8
here and manifest them with their bodies and then
after the but so they will come actually after the

: 6: 6.8 , : 6: 5.6
battle and then they promulgate again the dharma
mahayana teachings okay vesna you mentioned that

: 6: 6.64 , : 6:22.72
from shambhala you can travel to other pure lands
is this solely from shambhala that you can do this

: 6:24.48 , : 6:3 .2
from from the sukhavati from celeste
there was no mention much about

: 6:3 .92 , : 6:4 .68
you can do this terrestrial or not no evidence
of that okay but from the celestial right you can

: 6:4 .68 , : 6:47.84
because that’s a pure land now now you once you’re
in any pure land you can go and visit others

: 6:5 .24 , : 6:56.96
thank you um there’s no this is
probably more of your opinion

: 6:56.96 , : 7: 4.32
but your general impression of the character
of the mongolian oh i go for 2 years

: 7: 6. 8 , : 7: 5.52
you know for reason not only because to do my
research but also to be with people and you know

: 7: 5.52 , : 7:2 . 2
these years i developed so many
friendships which are very deep and um

: 7:22.56 , : 7:34.8
how to describe them they’re proud people
uh they have this strong uh hero kind of

: 7:34.8 , : 7:42.64
there is this narrative of heroic nation uh
you know the sons and daughters of ching ishan

: 7:43.2 , : 7:5 . 2
for mongolians for some mongolians right
ching is khan was emanation of ajrapani

: 7:52. 6 , : 8: 4.
that’s why he will be in raudra chakri’s military
there right as well um he they’re generous and

: 8: 4. , : 8: .84
kind people uh something that i think everybody
who visited mongolia even if they had some

: 8: 2.56 , : 8: 9.2
bad experiences their iphone was stolen while
it was stolen you know or they got sick although

: 8:2 . 8 , : 8:26.56
it’s much easier to stay healthy in mongolia
than if you go to india for us who who haven’t

: 8:27.44 , : 8:29.44
lived there for a long time in india

: 8:3 .52 , : 8:37.52
and that by the time they’re sitting in airplane
leaving they’re already talking about they want

: 8:37.52 , : 8:45.44
to come back uh it’s it’s very interesting
and it’s because um people are very accepting

: 8:46.4 , : 8:52.72
you know you can be a little bit eccentric and
cuckoo and you can be kind of things somehow you

: 8:52.72 , : 9: .52
fit there you don’t feel strange you know which
is also very wonderful they’re all extremely

: 9: .52 , : 9: .24
talented i have never encountered the nation
country where there is some you know there’s

: 9: 2.64 , : 9:2 . 6
about three million people uh but
they are so so many artists so many

: 9:2 . 6 , : 9:29.52
composer poets singers unbelievable like everybody
you know so that’s also beautiful uh side i think

: 9:29.52 , : 9:38.48
that that in addition to this kind of warrior
little bit mentality you have also this very

: 9:4 .36 , : 9:52.8
gentle and kind and warm side beautiful
explanation thank you thank you

: 9:53.76 , :2 : .92
uh we’ll take a couple more um how would people
best prepare for the pilgrimage vessel from your

:2 : 3.84 , :2 : .28
think that you should ask this question during
culture i’m sure in Portuguese uh i have you

:2 : .28 , :2 :2 .96
know uh already now what people can do right uh
i guess just um i think Rinpoche suggested to uh

:2 :2 .96 , :2 :29.68
Vajrasattva practices right that’s what one of the
messages i received that was being sent um also um

:2 :3 .6 , :2 :35.52
in the text the drink what you
shared right you can already do

:2 :35.52 , :2 :44.8
some prayers for libras in Shambhala if
that’s what what you are drawn to and um yeah

:2 :47.92 , :2 :56.64
is always helpful and then I’m sure Rinpoche
will give more guidance as well so um

:2 :58. 8 , :2 : 3.76
something that you really like as we travel when
we leave the city you know cities like every

:2 : 3.76 , :2 : 2.88
city it’s kind of um but uh when you leave
this city you are in this expanse of nature

:2 : 3.44 , :2 :25.92
where uninhibited uh where you you see the your
mind expands and nothing is blocking there so

:2 :26.56 , :2 :32.96
you see earth’s element and you see space and
land and nothing all right unless you go far

:2 :34. 8 , :2 :39.2
far in the west where you have mountains
you know very high mountains then you get

:2 :39.2 , :2 :5 .6
a very different feel but most of places you will
travel it’s it’s like that and on unpolluted not

:2 :54.32 , :2 :57.92
you know very few people you
see in the distance in ahmad

:2 :57.92 , :22: 4.48
with his sheep and goats on a horse
and in the countryside people are

:22: 4.48 , :22: .72
very warm very welcoming as you know i saw in
the last several years before Covid of course

:22: 3.28 , :22:2 . 6
Europeans traveling with bicycles on through
Mongolia you know just carrying a tent and

:22:2 . 6 , :22:27. 4
sometimes they just come to people’s homes
youths you know they call them girls tents

:22:27. 4 , :22:34. 6
and they offer a meal they’re allowed to sleep
there you know and then they move on so um

:22:37.28 , :22:42. 6
it should be like it should be wonderful
experience and as i understand initiation will

:22:42. 6 , :22:48.96
be in is initiation going to be in a national
park or somewhere else um we’re doing the

:22:48.96 , :22:55. 2
uh kalachakra initiation in the national park
yeah it’s gorgeous there and there are also

:22:56. , :23: 4.4
temples to visit uh i’m sure we will find a
way somehow either before or after initiation

:23: 4.4 , :23: 3.52
to visit our academy temple and it’s a beautiful
place to to visit and it’s not far from the city

:23: 3.52 , :23:2 .44
it’s about two hours maybe two and a half i assume
by bus and it will be beautiful place to have

:23:2 .44 , :23:29.44
initiation without the noise of the cities because
all the you know the biggest monastery a gundam is

:23:29.44 , :23:35.52
in the city right down almost like downtown you
know so it’s like a smaller asses of peace but

:23:35.52 , :23:43.76
you step one meter everything you are in the noise
of a city and this will be a beautiful place and i

:23:43.76 , :23:53.6
think it will be special experience also in agabe
you will you’ll see this big stupa all the uh

:23:53.6 , :24: .28
different emanations upon masamba with the color
chakra in the center we’ll visit also kalachakra

:24: .28 , :24: 9.76
smallhold chakra temple in a gander monastery
and i think there is much to see and experience

:24: 2.24 , :24:2 .92
so you have to bring clothes for warm and hot so
and cold because now in the countryside evenings

:24:2 .92 , :24:28.56
and nights can be quite chilly so you need a
jacket but the days are very warm and pleasant

:24:29.52 , :24:33.36
and of course gobby can be very
hot but august shouldn’t be too bad

:24:35.36 , :24:4 .96
thank you uh one more one last question for
you vesna then we’ll finish up for the day

:24:4 .96 , :24:48.4
so um uh can we ask your view on the timing
of the war between Shambhala and the east

:24:49.84 , :24:58.32
oh prophecy it’s hard to well the text
would say right 4 what 227 years or so

:24:58.32 , :25: 4.8
and terrible and dyslexic with numbers that’s why
i always met uh but it’s something like this uh

:25: 5.6 , :25: 2.72
so according also to these prophecies in 2 47
new king of Shambhala is coming to the throne

:25: 4. 8 , :25: 7.92
not yet the 24th but you know with prophecies

:25:2 .24 , :25:27.68
they can change every day in a way because
if events in the future depend on the karma

:25:28.24 , :25:36.4
collective karma sentient beings then you can’t
you know hold on to it uh very strictly and i

:25:36.4 , :25:48.24
think Rinpoche himself mentioned right that it
can come sooner or later it depends on aspirations

:25:49.76 , :25:54.24
and practices and sentient
beings and collective karma

:25:56.8 , :26: 6.48
thank you i think that is uh the questions that
we have today thank you versa um i firstly just

:26: 6.48 , :26: .2
want to say thank you very much for your
time today it’s been really inspirational

:26: .2 , :26: 8.56
um it’s a pleasure having you here and we’re
very grateful um and really look forward to

:26: 8.56 , :26:23.92
anyone that is coming on the tour um having your
wisdom and knowledge and just your beautiful

:26:23.92 , :26:3 .68
heart there with us so thank you so much yes
for everything you are doing in the doctrine

:26:32.8 , :26:39.68
center there because i hear it’s a lot of work
and and you are doing it kind of in the distance

:26:4 .32 , :26:49.6
um you know not having Rinpoche around so i hope
he will be able soon to join you and uh because

:26:49.6 , :26:56.8
things may be a little bit easier than for you
too and also wonderful that you’re organizing

:26:56.8 , :27: 5. 4
this event and that so many people already uh
have um signed up for it and I’m sure there

:27: 5. 4 , :27: .28
will be also interesting Mongolians there who
will join and it will be a wonderful experience

:27: 3. 2 , :27: 9.84
thank you again so much Vestner and thank you
everyone for joining today wish you success

:27:22. 8 , :27:25.76
okay bye

Tibetan Medicine – The Science of Healing: Holistic Life Series

Traditional Tibetan medicine, known as Sowa Rigpa is one of the most ancient sciences being used for thousands of years. On the one hand, it relies on indigenous Himalayan knowledge and on the other hand, it includes a systematic syncretism that allows it to interact with all other medical traditions, even with modern day science. As health affects us all, it’s good to have some understanding of how to preserve balance and how to manage a disorder when it arises, and to be able to restore good health. In this talk we speak with Katy Otero who is a practitioner of Traditional Tibetan Medicine who studies with Dr Nida Chenagtsang in Europe.
