Khentrul Rinpoche has graciously agreed to bestow Karma Lingpa’s Zhitro Hearing Liberation empowerment and lead a Purification Puja to honor and benefit our departed loved ones. He iwll also give teachings on the Bardo and death.
This rare and powerful “hearing liberation” teaching belongs to the highest yoga tantra. Khentrul Rinpoche has a profound connection with this practice, having received this empowerment many times. It includes liberation prayers and various sacred rituals, requiring extensive preparation—making public performances rare. However, its blessings are immense, supporting life, the transition of death, the bardo journey, and rebirth. It is especially meaningful for expressing gratitude to our parents and ancestors.
The Nyedren Purification and Liberation Puja helps those who have passed away, whether recently or long ago, by guiding them beyond the bardo and the six realms of existence into the awakened state of Samantabhadra. Through prayers and ritual offerings, the consciousness of the deceased merges with the enlightened wisdom of the hundred deities. As a final act of dedication, we will burn name tablets of both the living and the departed.
Khentrul Rinpoche has undertaken the extensive preparations for this ceremony out of his boundless compassion. This is a rare and precious opportunity—seize the moment to participate and offer your heartfelt prayers. Life is uncertain, but through this sacred practice, we can bring profound benefit to our loved ones and ourselves.
ABOUT ZHITRO
Zhitro, meaning “peaceful and wrathful,” denotes the assembly of forty-two peaceful and fifty-eight wrathful deities and was buried by Guru Padmasambhava in the eighth century. The teaching was revealed as terma in the 14th Century by the terton Karma Lingpa. These Buddhas are alternatively referred to as the bardo deities. The term ‘bardo’ signifies an ‘intermediate state,’ one of six such states, with the reference here being to the bardo of dying – the transitional phase between death and rebirth. During this phase, the one hundred Zhitro deities manifest themselves to the deceased to facilitate their liberation from the bardo. At some stages in the Bardo state, people need peaceful Deities; in other stages, people need wrathful ones to benefit their journey of awakening.
The teachings of Zhitro, as imparted by Guru Padmasambhava, establish a direct conduit for practitioners to engage with the bardo deities through dedicated practice and supplication. This empowerment is a blessing in our lives and prepares us for liberation in the bardo following our death. As per the Bardo Thodrol, a seminal text on the bardo in Vajrayana Buddhism (widely known as The Tibetan Book of the Dead), bardo deities present themselves to the deceased over a period of forty-nine days while the deceased is in the bardo. Initially, the peaceful deities appear, and if the deceased fails to recognize and attain liberation through these peaceful deities, the wrathful deities subsequently manifest. If the deceased cannot connect with the deities during this forty-nine-day period, their consciousness is drawn back into rebirth within one of the six realms.

SPONSOR THE PUJA
Many people enjoy watching various Pujas online performed by Lamas believing they are receiving a huge benefit. It is also common in the West for people to ask a lama to pray for them without making any offering or having a personal connection. While, as one of all sentient beings, you are connected to the results of the Puja made for the benefit of all sentient beings, the karmic connection is incredibly weak, and therefore so is the result. Normally during certain times in one’s life when a Puja or prayers are required to clear various karmic debts, obstacles, or karmically-based illness, it is customary to make financial offerings to the Lama for prayers and Pujas. This creates a stronger Karmic connection to the Puja, which creates a stronger karmic result.

Every day, we pass through countless small transitions—tiny deaths and rebirths in each moment. Yet, when the final transition of this life comes, we struggle, even though our old selves have already dissolved and reformed countless times. Death is not separate from life—it is an essential part of our journey. Whether you or a loved one is facing death now or many years from today, it is vital to understand how to live and die with awareness.
Khentrul Rinpoche will guide us through the profound teaching of the bardos—the transition phases between one life and the next. These moments hold immense potential for spiritual transformation if we recognize them as opportunities rather than obstacles. Through teaching on karma, the causes and conditions we create, and their deep connection to death and rebirth, Rinpoche will illuminate how we can shape our future beyond this life.

Khentrul Rinpoche will speak on the divine female wisdom and how to use it on the tantric path. He will bestow the Wang (full empowerment) of the Goddess Red Saraswati who is the consort of Manjushri and the female embodiment of wisdom. The empowerment comes from the Jonang tradition, based on Jetsun Taranatha. Most of the tantras that are popular in other traditions come from him because Taranatha is the treasury of the tantra.
His teaching will be on using feminine wisdom on the path of desire to work with our emotions. We do not have to abandon the challenges of our modern world. In fact, we can learn to face them directly and transform them into our path to liberation.
About Red Sarasvati
Both Buddhists and non-Buddhists worship her equally. In the vedic tradition, Brahma created the world, and for a long time after, they didn’t have any sounds or sentient beings. Many gods came to him and said, “you made the world, but there are no beings and no sounds.” Then Brahma spilled water from his vase, and there became this incredible sound, this sound is known as the goddess Sarasvati. So that is why she is known as Brahma’s daughter. This is, in general, a story based on Hindu teachings, but the Tibetans have many, many different versions of her. Some of her forms are white with two arms. This form is a tantric 4-armed version and is powerful and magnetizing in nature.
Saraswati is a wisdom deity but a female version, just like Manjushri. Many great practitioners consider her to be Manjushri’s secret consort. There are so many other lamas worshipping, especially scholars worshipping her instead of Manjushri.
Includes:
-Red Saraswati Empowerment Wang
-Oral transmission of the practice text
-Teaching on the Divine Female Nature

Awaken Vitality and Longevity with Khentrul Rinpoche
Khentrul Rinpoche has generously offered a weekend of powerful empowerments and practices to strengthen our life force and wellbeing. The first one on Saturday is of the 5 Tseringma sisters who are connected with all lineages of Vajrayana. The second Namgyalma (Ushnisha Vijaya) is on Sunday at the same venue and online. See here for Sunday’s details.
We have this rare and precious human life—and we must use it wisely. The future is uncertain, but as Bodhisattvas and aspiring Bodhisattvas, we have a responsibility to create the best conditions for a long, meaningful life dedicated to Dharma practice.
Aging, sickness, and death are inevitable. But how we meet them—with strength, clarity, and resilience—is within our power. While we may not erase all karmic seeds of illness, we can weaken their grip and plant the causes for a healthier, more vibrant future.
The Power of the 5 Tseringma Sisters
The 5 Tseringma Sisters—powerful Dharma protectors—support sincere practitioners in countless ways. They grant not only long life but also the resources essential for practice: health, sustenance, stability, and abundance. Khentrul Rinpoche reminds us that the most direct way to receive their aid is to be an excellent practitioner—because they are bound by oath to support those walking the Dharma path. Still, through focused practice, we can strengthen our connection to these protectors and amplify their blessings in our lives.
Connecting with the Mountain Spirits
In Tibet and the Himalayas, people have long honored the unseen forces of the land—mountain spirits and protectors who shape the energy of our world. Through their stories, we open ourselves to the unseen, cultivating a deep sense of wonder and gratitude for the vast reality beyond what we perceive. After receiving the empowerment to connect with these protectors, we will recite prayers together, anchoring their blessings in our lives.
Come deepen your connection to the Dharma protectors, extend your life force, and strengthen your Dharma path.
WHO CAN ATTEND
There are no formal prerequisites. Previous Buddhist study and practice are helpful but not required. Like all vajrayana practices you are taking refuge, bodhisattva vows and forming Samaya with the master.
