In Vajrayana Buddhism, the Guru is the Buddha, the Guru is the Dharma, and the Guru is the Sangha. The whole path is contained in the practice of devotion to the Guru, who, while ultimately our enlightened nature, is also a human being who reflects that nature to us. The most powerful Guru is your root guru, the one who points out the nature of reality to you and you transform your mind. The light that shows the way on our Kalachakra path is Khentrul Rinpoche. And the one who had the most profound impact on his mind, is his root Guru, Lama Lobsang Trinle. Lama Lobsang Trinley (Lama Lutrin) is one of the most respected Jonang Kalachakra masters of our time. He was well known for his incredible healing powers as he had healed himself from Leprosy and then those around him with his spontaneous medicine wisdom. While showing no signs of sickness, he stated he would pass away and then entered Thukdom, a meditative state at Saka Dawa time, the day that we celebrate the birth, enlightenment, and death of Shakyamuni Buddha. Join us in the profound practice of the Jonang Guru Puja in honor of the pari-nirvana of Lama Lobsang Trinley. All practices done at this time are incredibly powerful as the merit is multiplied by 100 million times.

In honor of Jetsun Taranatha’s Parinrivana, Khentrul Rinpoche will bestow the oral transmission of the Zhentong Nyingpo. In a previous year he gave a commentary on the text which you can find in Learn.dzokden.org. Jetsun Taranatha was a renowned Tibetan Buddhist scholar, teacher, and master of the Jonang school. He is considered one of the most important figures in the development of Tibetan Buddhism in the 16th and 17th centuries and is best known for his profound contributions to the teachings of emptiness (shunyata) and the nature of mind based on Dolpopa’s Zhentong emptiness. He was a master who had familiarity with all traditions and could write from their doctrinal point of view perfectly. If he wrote a commentary on a Jonang text it reflected no hint of the Nyngma and vice versa. While a prolific tantric master who wrote many commentaries, empowerments and Sadhanas, he was also known for his poetry. Khentrul Rinpoche will share some of his Dharma poetry in honor of this day.

In celebration of the Birth, Death, and Enlightenment of Shakyamuni Buddha, we recite praises recounting the accomplishments of his incredible life. Connecting and learning from his example, we, too, can take steps to learn and practice in stages to reveal our own enlightened nature. The first step to changing the world to a more peaceful, harmonious place is to change ourselves. It is with each of the karmas we make, each cause and condition, that we plant the seeds to change ourselves and then, through our transformation, the world around us. Shakyamuni spent years of diligent practice and effort to understand the nature of reality and reveal his own nature before he was able to teach others. Once he transformed himself, his enlightened speech and activity had the power to transform our world and continue to through this day.
In addition to the praises to the Buddha of our time, we will chant the powerful 1000 Buddha Puja to connect with all the 1000 Buddhas of this fortunate eon. Connecting with 1000 Buddhas and sharing their names creates powerful conditions for all who hear this to be reborn in a higher realm and to come into contact with the Dharma. All practices done at this time are incredibly powerful as the merit is multiplied by 100 million times.

Extraordinary Rare Vishvamata Empowerment, the Feminine Aspect of Kalachakra
Part of this path of transformation to enlightenment requires the harmonization and unification of female and male energies within ourselves. The Yab-Yum deity of the Kalachakra mandala is often referred to as Kalachakra but is actually the inseparable union of the ultimate masculine Kalachakra, in union with the ultimate feminine, Vishvamata. Their combined qualities represent the ultimate love, wisdom and compassion fused into immutable bliss and empty form. The empowerment of the feminine form, Vishvamata Empowerment (Jenang) is almost never bestowed. Khentrul Rinpoche will bestow this rare Jonang practice along with a practice text as part of the retreat. We can embrace the true energies of the female and male aspect within ourselves to transform our world. Khentrul Rinpoche will give teachings to clarify what these aspects are and various ways to work with them.
The retreat will be held at the Manjushri Center of the Karma Kagyu around 40 minutes of the International Airport Don Mueang. RETREAT PROGRAM FEES COVER
